The deal with Red Sky Music Festival

Concertgoers at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago in 2010.

By now, you're probably aware of the Red Sky Music Festival, a six-day fest going down in July at Omaha's TD Ameritrade ballpark and the surrounding parking lots. (If you're not familiar, read this.)

And if you're like any of the many people who have called, e-mailed and tweeted me about it, you probably want to know who's playing.

Originally, the festival lineup (at least the six headliners) was supposed to be announced in mid-February. That deadline has obviously passed.

So, what's going on? What's the holdup?

Basically, this is a joint venture between MECA and Live Nation. That means it takes approval by Live Nation and MECA's board of directors to approve anything. And they're not letting out a peep without making sure every little thing is nailed down first.

My guess? They know who the headliners are. But they're not saying a word until everyone's got signed contracts and approvals on their desks.

But stay tuned for the next few weeks. We'll have something in our hot little hands sometime in March.

My question: Who do you want to see? And, being realistic, who do you think will perform?

  2. Top of my list: My Morning Jacket, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters

I'd also love love love to see Pearl Jam, but that's a little unrealstic.

  3. Biffy Clyro, Local H, Muse, Shiny Toy Guns, Foo Fighters, Ben Folds, Eels, Broken Bells, Cut Copy, The Faint, Arctic Monkeys... I would be happy if just one of these bands were there.

  4. Theresa, I actually think Pearl Jam is within the realm of possibility (if they're on tour, of course). The headliners will be Qwest-sized acts.

Fritz, you've got some great ideas in there. Foo Fighters and Muse would definitely be on my list.

  5. Widespread Panic, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Pennywise, Primus, Stevie Wonder. I could go on. Regarding Pearl Jam; they are rumored to be playing a big 25th anniversary show somewhere in the Midwest this summer. I don't think it would be too tough to book them.

  6. Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Mars Volta, Radiohead, Muse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Silversun Pickups, (original) Guns N Roses, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's.

  9. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Willie Nelson, Rancid, Muse, and any of Maynard James Keenan's projects would be especially cool (i.e Tool, A Perfect Circle, or Puscifer)

  10. I know someone who claims to know someone (yeah I know... not exactly a solid source but who knows...)

They were told the headliners will be:
    Jimmy Buffett
    Radiohead
    U2
    and 311

I'd love to see Radiohead but the reast are duds. Hopefully the supporting acts are decent.

  11. Okay, so maybe in May it was okay to say the lineup is coming. Here we are with July knocking on the door, and still no lineup announced? Janky.
